POSITON SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Ensure the health and safety of all children in programs and assist in the delivery of age-appropriate educational programs, under the supervision of the Preschool & School Age Coordinator.
Positively engage with members and families to enhance their experience with Valparaiso YMCA programming.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Child Supervision and Responsibilities: Ensure the safety of children; maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Create and deliver age-appropriate curriculum.
Interact with children in a variety of positive, fun and learning activities.
Comfort upset children.
Perform opening and/or closing procedures as required and outlined in guidelines.
Follow and enforce parent/guardian sign in and sign out procedures.
Document attendance.
Assist in connecting children and families with our programs.
Provide feedback to parents in a caring and professional manner.
Assist with the delivery of summer camp programming, including covering summer camp shifts and field trips; manage field trip confirmations.
Drive YMCA school age transportation van as necessary.
No special license or training needed.
Staff Supervision and Responsibilities: Ensure adherence to work schedules, policies and procedures for staff and volunteers.
Complete rounds at off-site locations to ensure YMCA protocol is being followed.
Monitor staff performance.
Mentor and coach staff as needed.
Assist with interviews and onboarding of new staff.
Provide training to new employees.
Office Responsibilities: Verify and maintain program participant files in YMCA software; maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Enter registration packet information.
Maintain child and staff files according to state guidelines.
Set up new YMCA memberships/key tags.
Respond to inquiries and requests per department guidelines.
This includes but is not limited to fielding incoming calls, addressing unexpected visitors, interacting with other departments and answering the door.
Other: Follow emergency procedures and safety precautions, including reporting accidents, incidents and hazards.
Adhere to policies, rules and regulations, as outlined in employee handbook and other communications.
Provide feedback and address concerns in a courteous manner, modeling active listening, reflection and response skills in all interactions.
Resolve situations immediately by going above and beyond when opportunity exists.
Accept additional assignments as deemed appropriate, within the scope of the job description.
Obtain and maintain required trainings.
Starting pay: $14.
00 per hour Minimum age 21 required.
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum 1 year management experience and/or lead teaching.
Associate's degree in Youth Development, or related field with documented youth development coursework preferred.
Indiana Youth Development credential preferred.
Physical ability and stamina to perform the duties as outlined above, including but not limited to extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking; bending, stooping, reaching, lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
