Description Summary of the position: The Global Commodity Senior Manager will develop a consolidated cross-division global commodity strategy as global procurement vision for Hitachi global compressor division, reporting directly to Hitachi Global Air Power (HGAP) US, LLC and indirectly to Hitachi Industrial Equipment Services Procurement Senior Manager.
This position is located at the HGAP plant in Michigan City, Indiana.
Duties and responsibilities: Define charter requirements including purchasing data, supplier and commodity-specific history, and current regional strategies through interviews and regular meetings with regional commodity managers.
Develop Global commodity strategies based on Hitachi global compressor division objectives, input from commodity managers, and cross-functional stakeholder requirements Develop proposal of new Hitachi global compressor procurement organization to HIES Identify and prioritize highest impact and probability sub-projects Scope project definition, schedule, resources, and expected outcomes Align stakeholders to gain program approval on strategies which may present regional challenges in pursuit of divisional benefits Align with regional commodity managers to develop division-wide consolidated strategies that complement regional plans Collaborate with engineering, quality, service, and warranty to solicit ideas, change support, and solutions Seek design for manufacturability and assembly input and best practices from operations and suppliers Benchmark commodity costs with best-practice rules of thumb, metrics, raw material indices, and technical should-cost modeling expertise (aPriori) Perform analysis of competitor suppliers and review cost and capabilities from like-sources Review opportunities for consolidating suppliers, consolidated-spend negotiations, and long-term agreements (spend-based rebates) Report and present status regularly to regional stakeholders and leadership Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Business Major – Supply Chain and Procurement Professional experience: Commodity management, manufacturing-process knowledge, and technical should-cost reduction experience for primary compressor commodities Global commodity management with multi-site responsibilities Global Sourcing experience in Asian countries will be a plus with international global companies.
Managed Global Spend of $300-$500Mi.
per year with global and multi-site responsibilities.
Global communication skills for effective information gathering and cooperation between different regions Deep knowledge and understanding of HGAP / Hitachi business, projects, operations, and engineering design.
aPriori should-cost modeling expertise across multiple commodities and processes Demonstrated leadership developing commodity strategies, cross-functional teams, and achieving procurement results (quality improvement, on time delivery, cost reduction) language capability of Japanese and Chinese is preferable (English is essential).
