Job Objective: To assist in the smooth operation of a fast-paced retail store and to present a positive image of Goodwill to the community.
The Assistant Manager is responsible for the supervision of all store personnel in the absence of the Store Manager.
This position reports to the Store Manager who evaluates performance annually.
Essential Job Functions: Knows and understands the Goodwill Mission: Strengthen communities by empowering individuals and families through education, training and job placement.
Cashiering: Accurately count money and make change.
Accurately ring register being aware of proper pricing.
Know Visa and MasterCard procedures, all forms of payment and discounts including Goody Bucks, Good Points and MGB.
Properly bag merchandise.
Alert management regarding altered tickets.
Communicate specials to customers.
Acknowledge all customers and contributors in a helpful & friendly manner.
Refer customers to management as warranted.
Watch for shoplifting, for ticket switching, and for non-store people in unauthorized areas.
Maintain safe working and shopping environment.
Ask every paying customer if they would like to Round Up (their change goes to support our mission).
Know how to properly use the overhead paging system and be able to make promotional announcements.
Assist in the supervision of the work force: Assist Manager in the supervision of all store employees on a daily basis.
Assume all necessary managerial functions in the absence of the Manager and perform as required.
Assist in training and developing store employees and clients.
Be an example setter for all other employees.
Follow the dress code and wear designated identification as provided.
Assist in the supervision of stock procedures: Assist in the handling of donations, returns, and stock transfers.
Assist in quoting prices not on the price list.
Assist in checking the condition and placement of stock.
Assist Manager and other employees in maintaining store appearance and shop-ability.
Work to reduce internal theft and shoplifting.
Ensure 2 textile audits are completed per textile hanger per day and all other processed racks are counted and tracked on the appropriate paperwork.
Administrative and clerical operations: Administer company policies and procedures.
Assist in the supervision of daily bank deposits, replenish change, and pick up bank bags.
Handle refunds.
Handle customer complaints.
Maintain records of store as required.
Needs to be knowledgeable on how to utilize SharePoint.
Attend meetings as required.
Security and safety: Assist in maintaining safety and security of the premises and merchandise.
Assist in controlling pilferage and preventing burglary.
Do bag checks anytime an employee leaves the building.
Assist in eliminating fire hazards and unsafe conditions.
Assist in conducting emergency drills and instructing workers in fire prevention and safety procedures.
Maintain safe working and shopping environment.
Fill in as needed to cover schedule in the absence of other store employees.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Skills/Abilities: Must be well groomed and personable.
Ability to read, write, and do simple math functions.
Ability to work well under pressure.
Ability to exercise good judgment.
Must have effective communication skills.
Ability to supervise personnel.
Must have prior experience in dealing with the public and the ability to do so tactfully.
Must be sales oriented.
Must have a telephone and a car.
Must have a current drivers license and insurance.
Must be bondable.
Ability to carry out established organizational and departmental policies as described in the Employee Handbook.
Ability to be a working Assistant Manager.
Ability to work a flexible schedule; open and close the store and work long days, as necessary.
Must be able to pass drug screen before receiving store keys and random drug test thereafter.
Results of limited criminal history check must meet company standards.
Ability to fill in as production supervisor or fill in at other locations as needed.

Must have good physical stamina and moderate mobility as well as the ability to lift, bend, and work on feet for at least 4-hour periods.
Ability to move filled boxes, barrels, and Z-racks weighing no more than 50 pounds.
Ability to work in a standard retail environment with significant dust.
Ability to work in a light industrial area.
