POSITION SUMMARY: Provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.
Maintains a working relationship with parents and children.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Report unsafe conditions immediately to supervisor or other person of responsibility if your immediate supervisor is not available.
Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
Follow departmental dress code.
No alterations to the dress code are allowed.
Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
Develops positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance.
Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers members and participants to other programs.
Maintains records as required (i.
e.
, attendance, progress reports, etc.
).
Organizes and puts away needed class equipment.
Reports damaged equipment.
Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
Builds relationships with members and building participants.

Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.
Showing up for all scheduled dates on time and in proper attire.

QUALIFICATIONS: At least 16 years of age.
Complete on-line CPR/First Aid/AED/Emergency Oxygen certification prior to employment, and skills within 30 days of hire.
Complete West Bend training prior to hire and as required going forward.
Complete Activate America and Listen First training and other YMCA required trainings.
Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent.
Complete annual online and in-person child sexual abuse prevention training.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to swim effectively in order to demonstrate skills to participants.
Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
