*Controller*
NICTD (the District) is looking for candidates to fill the position of Controller.
Working under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, this person will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of fiscal matters relating to the District and the South Shore Line.
Longer term responsibilities will evolve with the varying goals and objectives of the District and South Shore Line.
*Description**:* The Controller’s responsibilities will evolve with the varying changes within the organization.
Candidates should expect that their responsibilities will change over the years.
At present, the expected responsibilities for this position include: * Recommends major financial objectives and policies.
* Maintains control of the District’s inventory of assets.
* Controls the District’s financial records.
Prepares reports that summarize and forecast business activity and financial position in areas of income and expenses based on past, present, and expected operations.
* Directs preparation of the annual business plan, in consultation with Chief Financial Officer.
* Collects, interprets and summarizes the District’s economic activities in dollars as specified or required by various regulations, standards, rules and laws.
* Coordinates audits of District accounts.
* Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies.
* Directly supervises the Staff, Project, Accounts Payable, Utility, and Payroll Accountants.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the District’s policies, labor agreements, and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; coordinating vacation relief, addressing complaints and resolving issues.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals and small groups.
* Ability to monitor deadlines and take corrective/enforcement actions when necessary.
* Ability to work and communicate effectively in stressful conditions.
* Demonstrated superior interpersonal skills with fellow employees and others.
* Willingness to travel as needed for professional development.
* Valid driver’s license with a safe and insurable driving record.
Reliable transportation to and from Michigan City, Indiana.
* Willingness to work varied shift hours, varied days off, holidays, and extended hours if necessary to respond to operational circumstances.
* Superior record concerning safety attitude, attendance, and work performance.
* Ability to multi-task among competing short-term priorities while maintaining a pleasant disposition.
_MATHEMATICAL SKILLS_ * Demonstrated ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference as they apply to principles of accounting.
Ability to apply concepts such as percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to apply technical requirements to actual situations or events.
_REASONING ABILITY_ * Demonstrated ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Night, weekend, travel, and non-traditional shift work may be necessary based on the needs of the District.
While not frequent, the successful applicant will be expected to be available for calls during the night, evening, and weekend from other managers and supervisors.

*Salary and Benefits*: 100k to 125K.
Salary is dependent on the candidate’s skills and as well as consistency with the pay structure for others with comparable assignments.
Credit for time served in NICTD employment, including military leaves, will be applied in determining vacation day entitlements.
The benefit package includes full health benefits for the employee and family, vacation, compensatory time, supplemental pension, and other fringe benefits received by NICTD management.
